How to make Foam Decoupage Designs.
Designed by Kathleen George. The beautiful art of decoupage was first
popular in the Victorian era. Crafters today often seek to re-create this
rich, old-fashioned look, a task made easy by many striking papers
available, including wrapping paper, paper napkins and even speciality
papers designed just for decoupage. You can use all of these materials
when you decoupage on Styrofoam brand plastic foam, creating exquisite
ornaments, eggs, wreaths and wallhangings. |
You will need...
4" egg of Styrofoam brand plastic
foam.
Black napkins or thin black tissue paper.
Wrapping paper or decoupage paper ( we used a rose print and a butterfly
pattern).
Paper Napkin Applique Glue, Mod Podge or other decoupage glue.
Crystal Clear Glaze (Accent) or other sealer (optional).
Sharp nail scissors.
Wooden skewer.
Stiff brush, such as fabric painting brush.
Soft brush.
Block of Styrofoam brand plastic foam. |
Decoupage Eggs
1. Insert skewer into narrow end of egg. The skewer will serve as your
handle when working on the egg.
2. Tear black napkin or tissue paper into pieces the size of a quarter.
Working on a small area, spread applique glue on the 4" foam egg
using stiff brush. Glue paper pieces to egg, smoothing with brush to
remove air bubbles. Brush a thin coat of applique glue over napkin or
tissue paper. Repeat, until entire egg is covered. for a richer colour,
add a second layer of napkin or tissue paper. Insert skewer in block of
Styrofoam till egg is dry.
3. Cut individual flowers, butterflies or other motifs from wrapping or
decoupage paper. Using applique glue, glue individual motifs to egg. If
paper will not lie flat against curved surface, make small cuts in motif
following along the lines of the design; slightly stretch apart or voerlap
to follow the contour of the egg. Let dry.
4. If desired, brush on Crystal Clear Glaze. Let dry; gently remove
skewer.
