How to Work with Anita’s Painting Boards and Chunky Stamps.

For all the projects on this page you will need...

Using Art Boards as Place Mats

1. Use Anita’s Acrylics and Anita’s Metallic Acrylics to create an interesting paint effect over the entire front of the art board and leave to dry. Effects could include sponging, blending, blocks of colour, ragging and more. TIP. Use low tack masking tape to mask off different coloured areas.

2. Choose the chunky stamp of your choice and stamp onto the painted board using contrasting acrylic colours. Tip do not apply too much paint to the stamp - this will prevent smudging. Lightly ‘walk’ your finger tips over the stamp to ensure even coverage before removing. TIP Re-using the stamp without applying any more paint will result in 2 or 3 interesting faded images. Leave to dry.

3. To protect your place mat and to enable you to wipe it clean, cover with clear gloss self-adhesive vinyl, making sure that all the air bubbles are smoothed out. NB The mats will not take extremely hot temperatures without damage.

As Art Boards

Sketch or transfer design of your choice onto the Art Board. TIP. If you are not very confident at drawing, why not use a stencil, using a pencil to draw around the cut outs and following the colour guides on the label.

Co-ordinating Napkins & Banners

Use the same method of applying paint and Chunky Stamps as for when decorating the place mats. The only difference (if you wish to hand wash the material) is ensuring that you mix 50/50 Anita’s Textile Medium to Anita’s Acrylic. Leave the completed fabric to dry for 24 hours, then heat set using an iron for a couple of minutes. Use a cloth to protect your design and set the iron to the temperature acceptable to the material.

TIP. Stretch the material out first onto scrap paper or card using masking tape. The paper will collect any surplus paint which may seep through the material - the taut material will make painting more controlled.

TIP Use stencils for designs if you are not confident at drawing. This works brilliantly, especially for wording. Place the stencil into position, secure with masking tape, then carefully trace along the edge of lines of each of the cut outs using a soft pencil or fabric pen. Remove the stencil and paint with acrylic mixed with textile medium and paint brushes.
